New Looks!

So, if you have been following me or even if you haven’t, I haven’t been posting, writing or doing much in the book world in a while. That’s a post for another day. However, today I am excited. I know, right? With all of the things going on in the world, it’s rare to be excited about things anymore. But, I’m choosing to look at the great things and I have three new things to be excited about.

I have three new book covers and I’m so excited about them. I found this amazing cover creator and she’s been absolutely amazing to work with. Markayla Blake, you are just absolutely a gem and I would work with Covers in Color any day of the week. She’s professional, so very fast and so easy to work with. She knows what she’s doing and I couldn’t be more pleased with how my covers came out.

Why new covers you may ask. Well, that brings me to my piece of advice for anyone pursuing a career in publishing. Something I had to learn the hard way. If you are publishing and your publisher gives you the opportunity to submit your own cover, do it. I know getting started, you may not have the money for the cover of your dreams and if you don’t (lots of us are in that situation), then by all means have your publisher do the cover. Just know that if you don’t provide the cover and they do, when your contract is up (unless it’s something that you’ve negotiated) that cover will still belong to the publisher and you’ll be left with your book, but not the cover that you’ve been promoting for the life of the contract. Again, there is nothing wrong with this if that’s what you need to do. (It’s what I did.) But now, as I’ve been getting the rights back to my books, I’ve had to get new covers.

It’s a new experience and something I’m glad that I’ve done at this point because now, no matter where I publish them, I have my own covers and I don’t have to change them ever again. It’s been a learning experience, but I’m glad that I did it.

So, what are you excited about?
